Lower Chicago futures trimmed closing European soft oil prices with soy oil 0.75 guilders down and rape oil 0.50 guilders lower to unchanged. Buyers could not resist the lower soy oil prices on the back of tight rape oil supplies and concern over modified U.S. soybeans with Nov fetching 86 guilders and Dec/Jan 87.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. "Never mind the quality, feel the price," joked one trader. Rape oil fetched 90 guilders for Nov, 94 guilders for Feb/Apr and 95.25 guilders a 100 kilos for May/Jul. At the close the premium for rape oil over soy oil, based on sellers' prices was three to 3.75 guilders. Palm oil prices in European were higher following gains in Asia on the back of market friendly export data. Malaysian cargo surveyor Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) put local exports for October at 736,374 tonnes compared with 672,153 tonnes for September. However traders felt the Malaysian market was looking overbought and expect a down side correction on Friday. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed $7.50 up while refind palm oils were unchanged to $10 higher. Lauric oils attract some light dealer trading during the afternoon with Sep/Oct coconut oil fetching $750, Nov/Dec $735, Dec/Jan $725 and $730 and Jan/Feb $725 a tonne cif. Nov/Dec palmkernel oil traded at $695 a tonne cif. Closing coconut oil sellers were $2.50 to $10 up and palmkernel oil $7.50 to $10 higher.
