Traders said there was no business to be had during the afternoon session. "The market is on the whole leaning towards bearishness," one said. The palm oil sector had been given a fillip from private estimates of Oct Malaysian palm oil exports, but this was countered by estimates for Malaysian stocks for the same period. The palm oil sector closed unchanged to $7.50 down. Coconut oil lacked incentive to climb to a higher plane and shed most of its earlier gains in line with sentiment on the rest of the market. At the finish it was $2.50 to $5 higher than Friday's close, versus $5 to $10 up at midday. Palmkernel oil ended $2.50 lower. Soy oil and rape oil slipped 0.50 to 1.25 in sympathy with the palm oils, with a jumpy start to the Chicago soybean oil futures watched but mostly ignored for now.
