European vegetable oils quiet ahead of PORLA data
LONDON, Oct 14 (Reuter) - European vegetable oil traders
were keeping a low profile on Monday as they waited for the
Chicago market to settle, and ahead of the PORLA report due for
release early on Tuesday morning.
Malaysian private forecaster Ivan Wongs latest local output,
stocks and exports estimate had little impact on prices as it
was within market expectation and release too close to the
offical data from PORLA.
"Very few take much notice of the Wong report which is
release the day before PORLA's data," said a trader.
Apart for the Tuesday's Malaysian data the only other factor
in the market was Chicago's reaction to Friday USDA crop report.
Traders were expecting further falls which were seen in
soybeans, but not in the soy oil futures.
However, some were not surprised as many had been talking in
terms of an oversold market and were looking for a clear bounce
in Chicago sooner rather than later.
"We are getting very close to an oversold market so it has
got to bounce soon. But that does not mean Chicago won't go back
down," said another trader.
Closing crude palm oil sellers were $7.50 to $5.00 down with
no outright business reported although Oct traded at $540 in a
switch with Jan/Mar at $525.
Refined palm oil closed around $2.50 lower with no further
business reported.
Coconut oil was mixed at $2.50 up to $2.50 down and
palmkernel oil unchanged.
Dutch soy oil closed 2.25 guilders down after Oct traded at
89 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
Dutch/EU rape oil finished two to 1.75 guilders lower after
Nov/Jan traded at 92.50 and Feb/Apr at 94.50 guilders a 100
kilos fob ex-mill.
