Light consumer interest was seen in both soft oils and palm oil, but the bulk of the business was between dealers. However, traders said all of the business took place before Chicago opened higher, after which most buyers withdrew. Palm oil prices were supported by news earlier in the day that Indonesia's joint marketing agency (KPB) had suspended exports of crude palm oil in October. A KPB offical told Reuters in Jakarta that the suspension would enable it to meet a backlog of previous commitments. European traders said there had been a knee-jerk reaction to the news, but it only confirmed talk that had been in the market for two to three weeks. Following the news most sellers withdrew with those that where left marking up prices by $15 a tonne, but they settled back to around $5 to $10 above Tuesday's close. But as business picked up during the early afternoon prices moved back to their earlier levels. Despite the higher prices traders said the physical market should have no problems with almost 56,000 tonnes of palm oil in the Rotterdam tanks and more already at sea heading for Europe, although paper shorts could find themselves in difficulties. At the close of business crude palm oil was $15 to $12.50 up while refind palm oil was $7.50 to $10 higher. Crude palm oil cif Europe traded at $560, $562.50 and $565 for Oct while Nov made $542.50, $545 and $550 and Nov/Dec $545. Dec fetched $540 and Jan/Mar $537.50 a tonne cif. No further business was reported for refined palm. Dutch soy oil closed one to 1.75 guilders up and rape oil 0.50 to two guilders higher. Soy oil traded at 92.50, 93.50 and 93.75 guilders for Nov/Jan while 96.50 guilders was paid for Oct rape oil. Nov/Jan rape oil fetched 97.50 ansd 98.50, Feb/Apr 100.50 and 100 and May/Jul 101 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Coconut oil finished $2.50 to $10 up with palmkernel oil $5 higher.
