"When the market swings up the door swings open to imports," said David Brandon, an analyst with Smith Barney, citing a range between 76.00 and 78.00 as too high. Thursday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture put weekly exports at 153,100 480-lb bales, but the U.S. Census Bureau said weekly imports were at a season record of 61,358 480-lb bales. Cumulative imports stood at 286,957 bales. "We're not going to sell anything up here," said Sharon Johnson, an analyst with Frank Schneider and Co Inc. "We're not just high, but high relative to the rest of the world." Concerns of rain in the Delta and cool weather in Texas forecast for the weekend prompted some of the earlier buying, but trade selling near the highs capped the move up. Volume was extremely light, estimated at 6,500 lots. December closed up 0.11 at 75.39 cents a lb, having ranged from 76.40 to 75.20. Spot-October ended 0.22 weaker at 74.03, while the back months finished 0.23 to 0.04 firmer. Support in December was seen at 73.50. 231110 MET sep 96
