European palm oil prices were around $5 to $12.50 higher at the close of business following a techincal rally in Malaysia and reports ofn Indonesian buying. "The Malaysian market has been oversold and was due for a bounce. Also the Indonesians are short, all of which is supporting prices at the moment. But the general trend remains downward," said a trader. At the close in Europe crude palm oil was unchanged to $5 up while refined oil was $7.50 to $12.50 higher. No further business was reported in palm oil but coconut oil attracted some dealer trading during the afternoon. Alfoat coconut oil traded at $745 while $727.50 was paid for Sep/Oct and $717.50 for Oct/Nov. At the close sellers were unchanged to $2.50 up. Palmkernel oil closed $5 down after Oct/Nov traded at $695 a tonne cif. Dutch rape oil closed around 0.50 guilders down after Feb/Apr fetched 101.50 and 102 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Dutch Soy oil closed with sellers one to 0.50 guilders lower with sellers at at 2.50 to four guilder discount to rape oil. Traders said soy oil was being offered at a discount to rape oil owing to concern, partially in Germany, over genetically manipulated soybeans. "The German Green party is not happy about the genetically manaipulated soybeans and this is causing some consumer resistance," said a trader.
