European veg oils end slow session little changed
LONDON, Sept 3 (Reuter) - European vegetable oil prices
finished a slow session on Tuesday little changed.
"The market has not been in the mood to trade because there
are so many uncertaintes," said a trader.
Traders said the palm oil market lacked leads and it was
difficult to get a true picture on the current condition of the
U.S. soybean crop.
"The increased tension in the Middle East today hasn't
helped either," said a trader.
Traders said the U.S. missile strike against targets in the
south of Iraq following the Iraqi attack on the Kurdish city of
Arbil had little immediate impact.
But some traders felt in could be bearish for the market in
the longer term.
"The U.N. agreed in May to allow Iraq to export a limited
amount of crude oil to raise money to buy food, but after Iraq's
actions...there is the possibility this could be stopped which
could be bearish for this market," said a trader.
Iraq sent a delegation to Malaysia to negotiate possible
purchases of palm oil soon after the U.N. agreed to a limited
lifting of restrictions on there export of crude oil.
At the close of business in Europe crude palm oil was
unchanged while refined palm oil was $2.50 up to $2.50 down with
no further business reported.
Coconut oil closed $5 down after attracting some dealer
trading with Sep/Oct fetching $725 and Nov/Dec $715 and $712.50
a tonne cif.
Soft oils finished 0.25 to 0.50 guilders up after Nov/Jan
soy oil traded at 98.75 and Feb/Mat at 100.50 guilders a 100
kilos fob ex-mill.
