Palm oil closed in Europe as much as $15 up despite news that India's State Trading Corporation had rejected all bids at its tender for 12,000 tonnes of palm olein on Friday. The market drew its strength form talk of possible record Malaysian exports of palm oil during August. Traders said Malaysian exports for August were looking good with talk centred around a figure of 678,000 tonnes. The all-time high was 658,200 tonnes in January 1994. Malaysian cargo surveyors Caleb Brett and Societe Generale de Surveillance are due to release August estimates on Monday. July exports were 646,017 tonnes, the second highest on record. At the close in Europe crude palm oil was $15 to $10 higher after Aug/Sep was reported traded at $555, $562.50 and $565 a tonne cif during the afternoon. Among refined oils RBD palm oil closed $5 up and olein $12.50 higher. However, traders said buyers were not chasing the sellers. Coconut oil attracted dealer trading Friday afternoon with $720, $722.50 and $725 a tonne paid for Sep/Oct, Oct/Nov traded at $715, $717.50 and $720 and Nov/Dec at $720 and $717.50 a tonne cif. Closing sellers were $10 to $15 lower while palmkernel oil was $12.50 to $17.50 down. Soft oils rose following opening gains in Chicago with sellers closing one to 1.50 guilders up after Nov/Jan soy oil traded at 97.50 and Feb/Apr rape oil at 99.50 guilders/100 kilos fob ex-mill.
