Early speculative buying fueled the spot-October contract above resistance at 11.94, where a double top has formed on the charts, to a high of 11.98. But the contract fell just short of the key 12.00-cent mark and succumbed to fund and trade selling, which pressured October to 11.64. The market steadied towards the middle of the range and drifted lower for the remainder of the session. October finished 0.20 weaker to 11.65, having ranged from 11.98 to 11.63. March closed off 0.11 at 11.35, while the back months ended 0.10 to 0.08 weaker. Dealers said today's close points to weaker prices Tuesday. "It definately puts us on shaky ground," one trader said. He said the speculators could attempt to take out the stops below 11.60 and 11.65, they were unable to reach today. Despite the losses, analysts said the longer term outlook remains to the upside, and see spot-October climbing to around 12.50.
