"There's just not any interest in this thing," said one dealer. He said prices were likely to remain in their recent trading range until the October contract nears expiry or sinks towards its recent low of 11.28. "For now, we're just sitting comfortable," a dealer said. The market opened steady on mixed commission house buying and on trade buying at the lows. But volume was too thin to push the October contract through resistance seen at 11.80, and local and producer selling at the highs kept a lid on prices. A trader said spread activity in May/July accounted for a bulk of the day's volume. Firm resistance remained between 11.92 and 11.94, while support was pegged at 11.53, Friday's low, basis October. The contract finished 0.08 cent a lb firmer at 11.72, having ranged from 11.77 to 11.65. Second-position March closed up 0.07 to 11.42, while the deferred contracts ended 0.04 to 0.11 higher. LCE white sugar futures also closed higher.
