March finished down 0.16 cent per lb, to 69.63 cents, after ranging between 69.94 and 69.50. Spot December fell 0.23 cent to 69.97 cents, while the rest of the board ended 0.16 weaker to 0.18 firmer. Cotton prices rose at the opening on Wednesday, as Tuesday's late recovery from session lows spurred follow-through buying from locals and commission houses this morning, traders said. But scale-up selling by the trade amid talk there could be more export cancellations due to financial turmoil in Asia sent nearby prices into negative territory, dealers said. Despite rumors of cancellations of 25,000 bales or higher, traders still expect the weekly export number to be fairly strong, with both new sales and shipments coming at more than 100,000 running bales. The USDA is slated to release the export report on Thursday at 0830 EST. Technically, traders pegged March support at today's low of 69.50 cents, followed by 69.05-69.00 cents. Resistance was seen near 69.95-70.00 cents. Volume reached an estimated 11,500 lots, compared with Tuesday's official total of 16,683 lots. 041115 MET dec 97
