The European textile sector continues to enjoy relatively good sales conditions but the inclination of spinners to cover their forward requirements for raw cotton was tempered by expectations that prices will fall from their current levels. However, recent weather developments in several producing countries have served to limit crop expectations. Current high asking rates for central Asian descriptions are prompting some mill buyers to consider alternative growths. Even Poland was said to be beginning to question whether the traditionally dominant share of its market enjoyed by central Asian cottons was now secure. 241128 MET oct 97
