In a largely uneventful session, speculator-led selling kept prices under pressure, but trade house buying once again provided support in the low 11.70s basis March. "Speculators did a little bit of liquidation, which is what pressured the market later on, but otherwise it was dead," one trader said. The bellwether March contract closed off 0.01 cent at 11.73 cents a lb after spanning a narrow range from 11.71 to 11.79 cents. Second-position May ended unchanged at 11.75 cents, while the outer months fell between 0.02 and 0.09 cent. An estimated 14,141 lots changed hands, with most of the volume registered in the first 90 minutes of trading. Technically, March would need to clear 11.87 to attract fresh buying interest, while support was put at 11.63 cents. The market displayed little reaction to the latest European Union export tender, which came in largely as expected.
