Aluminium was correcting lower, copper was bouncing around its lows after Thursday's rally failed to follow through, while zinc was subdued apart from a burst of cash pricing purchases which stretched the backwardation. "It has been pretty slow this morning -- it's summer and the trade are more interested in their holidays now," one trader said. Aluminium turned lower from the outset, with the market needing to correct lower after becoming over-extended on Thursday in trading up to a $1,775 22-month high. The rise left a gap in the mid-$1,740s, which was filled this morning, although subsequent profit-taking ensured that there was little upside momentum. The cash/threes backwardation also narrowed slightly to $12, while last kerb trade was at $1,744, down $18.50 from Thursday's kerb close. Zinc interest was generally directed towards the spreads and the tight September dates, with the forward market hardly moving from overnight levels. However, buying of cash from one quarter lifted spot prices some $30 in the last minute of the ring, resulting in the cash/threes backwardation widening out in excess of $115. Three months closed the morning at $1,544, a $4 gain from yesterday. Copper sagged under disappointed liquidation during the rings, although the pace of trading was slow, and the market was able to defend the $2,310 support level comfortably. Losses were also encouraged by a 2,925-tonne stock increase. Inventories have risen 13,750 tonnes this week and now stand at 234,950 tonnes. In the short-term the market is seen ranging between a broad $2,270/2,340 range. Prices ended the morning at $2,315, down $18. Nickel tailed lower, as stocks continued to rise. Friday's increase of 150 tonnes took the total aggregation for the week to 1,128 tonnes -- indicative of slow physical interest, traders said. Three months prices held at the low, averting a test of $7,100, but still closed the session $120 lower at $7,140. Lead was quiet, and edged up in line with zinc to close the morning at $620, up $2. Tin was also subdued and shed $20 to $5,620. Alloy moved lower with primary, and traded $12 easier at $1,538. _________________________________________________________________ STANJE LME ZALIHA NA DAN - 08.08.1997. - po pojedinim skladištima _________________________________________________________________ ++ COPPER WIRE BARS + ANTWERP 50 HAMBURG 25 ++ COPPER CATHODES + ANTWERP 2650 DUNKIRK 1400 BREMEN 1175 HAMBURG 9300 ROTTERDAM 14025 LEGHORN 175 TRIESTE 11500 BARCELONA 725 BILBAO 16050 GOTHENBURG 17675 HELSINBORG 11150 LIVERPOOL 9900 CHICAGO 125 LONG BEACH 67825 LOS ANGELE 16975 ST LOUIS 5925 SINGAPORE 62050 ++ TIN ++ ANTWERP 10 HAMBURG 115 ROTTERDAM 6075 GENOA 235 BILBAO 40 HULL 265 LIVERPOOL 4395 BALTIMORE 170 LOS ANGELE 95 ++ LEAD ++ HAMBURG 275 ROTTERDAM 2025 GENOA 6975 BARCELONA 100 GOTHENBURG 14025 HELSINBORG 80550 GOOLE 2000 HULL 675 LIVERPOOL 2850 NEWCASTLE 1025 SUNDERLAND 75 DETROIT 750 ++ TIN ++ ANTWERP 10 HAMBURG 115 ROTTERDAM 6075 GENOA 235 BILBAO 40 HULL 265 LIVERPOOL 4395 BALTIMORE 170 LOS ANGELE 95 ++ LEAD ++ HAMBURG 275 ROTTERDAM 2025 GENOA 6975 BARCELONA 100 GOTHENBURG 14025 HELSINBORG 80550 GOOLE 2000 HULL 675 LIVERPOOL 2850 NEWCASTLE 1025 SUNDERLAND 75 DETROIT 750 ++ ZINC + ANTWERP 9225 DUNKIRK 100 BREMEN 250 HAMBURG 200 ROTTERDAM 81125 PIRAEUS 275 GENOA 19925 TRIESTE 118050 BARCELONA 13000 BILBAO 10425 GOTHENBURG 10375 HELSINBORG 62750 LIVERPOOL 12025 CHICAGO 200 ST LOUIS 9925 SINGAPORE 50375 ++ NICKEL ++ ANTWERP 1008 ROTTERDAM 39360 GENOA 288 TRIESTE 42 GOTHENBURG 13008 LIVERPOOL 72 NEW HAVEN 120 SINGAPORE 1386 ++ ALUMINI M ++ ANTWERP 425 ROTTERDAM 23500 TRIESTE 175 GOTHENBURG 26350 HELSINBORG 118375 AVONMOUTH 27050 HULL 120400 LIVERPOOL 162275 NEWCASTLE 92275 SUNDERLAND 45300 DETROIT 50 HAKATA 50 MOJI 50 SINGAPORE 5700 ++ ALUMINIUM ALLOY ++ ANTWERP 3880 DUNKIRK 260 DUISBERG 500 HAMBURG 440 ROTTERDAM 1380 BRESCIA 1080 GENOA 7400 TRIESTE 2880 BARCELONA 60 BILBAO 1480 GOTHENBURG 220 HULL 500 LIVERPOOL 22020 CHICAGO 2400 DETROIT 720 LONG BEACH 8860 ST LOUIS 1200 SINGAPORE 60 _________________________________________________________________ STANJE LME ZALIHA NA DAN 08. kolovoza 1997. količine su u tonama _________________________________________________________________ COPPER 248700 UP 2925 TIN 11400 DOWN 50 LEAD 119600 DOWN 25 ZINC 398225 DOWN 675 ALUMINIUM 621975 DOWN 1650 NICKEL 55284 UP 150 AL.ALLOY 55340 DOWN 60 STOCK IN OUT COPPER wire bars 75 0 0 COPPER cathodes 248625 3100 175 TIN 11400 0 50 LEAD 119600 50 75 ZINC 398225 0 675 NICKEL briquettes 4254 0 30 NICKEL cathodes 50994 300 120 NICKEL pellets 36 0 0 STOCK IN OUT ALUMINIUM ingots 274900 0 300 ALUMINIUM T-bars 199275 0 1075 ALUMINIUM sows 147800 0 275 AL.ALLOY D12S/JIS 400 0 0 AL.ALLOY 226/DIN 30960 0 20 AL.ALLOY A380.1 23980 0 40 LME - warehouse stock movements LONDON, Aug 08 - Latest LME warehouse stock changes are: copper up 2925, tin down 50, lead down 25, zinc down 675, aluminium down 1650, nickel up 150, aluminium alloy down 60 081557 MET aug 97
