Turnover was exceedingly thin, traders said, at an estimated 3,740 lots. "It was very quiet," said one dealer. "The market really did not do much, it seems as if it's happy where it is." Benchmark September cocoa ended $10 a tonne lower, at $1,680, after ranging between $1,694 and $1,676. Spot July fell $12, to $1,648, while the back months shed $11 to $13. After a mixed opening, speculatives and local selling sent values lower, dealers said. But light trade and industry-linked buying offset losses and kept the September contract above key chart support at Thursday's low of $1,670. On the charts, traders continued to peg near-term support at $1,670. After that level, September would find support near $1,660 and then $1,654. On the upside, near-term resistance was seen at $1,696, followed by Thursday's high of $1,722. Second quarter European grind data are slated for release in the next couple of weeks. The Dutch grindings, due at the end of next week, are expected to to show a slight increase from last's years second quarter total of 90,724 tonnes. 301015 MET jun 97
