The failure to pierce 73.00 cents in the face of bullish supply and demand data on Thursday reinforced the belief that July would test support at 71.90 cents, followed by the contract low of 71.00 cents. The speculators, who maintain a heavy net short position, are expected to begin to roll positions into October ahead of the first notice day. The benchmark July contract closed down 0.30 cent at 72.31 cents per lb, having ranged from 72.65 to 72.27 cents. New-crop December ended 0.21 cent weaker at 74.64 cents.
