The CSCE will be closed tomorrow for Good Friday. Volume was estimated at only 9,609 lots compared to Wednesday's official 10,895 lots. Early selling by the speculators pushed benchmark May to the day's low of 10.76 cents, but trade scale-down buying blocked losses, dealers said. The market failed to break out of its range, however. "The speculators are starting to lighten up but at this point I wouldn't say it is anything dramatic," a trader said. Speculators have five weeks to get out of May positions. The last trading day for the contract is April 30. The spot month closed at 10.81 cents per lb, having ranged from 10.84 to 10.76. The deferred contracts finished 0.01 and 0.02 weaker. Support remained at 10.68 cents basis May and resistance at 11.09 cents. Open interest in most-active May fell 2,260 lots to 59,913 lots as of Wednesday's close. 281004 MET mar 97
