Lower Chicago futures had little impact in Europe as the dollar's strength put a floor under the market. Palm oil prices which was consolidating earlier in the day after it's recent losses was pushed higher towards the close by currency with some protection evident against possible gains in Asia on Monday. Trade was slow during the afternoon with cride palm oil fetching $552.50 and $547.50 a tonne afloat and March at $557.50 a tonne cif. No further business was reported in palm products which closed with RBD oil $2.50 down and olein $2.50 up. Coconut oil attracted mainly dealer trading during the after noon with Dec/Jan trading at $785, Jan/Feb at $780 and $777.50, Feb/Mar at $772.50 and $775 and Mar/Apr at $767.50 a tonne cif. Closing sellers were $20 to $10 higher. Palmkernel oil finished unchanged to $5 up and tradeless. Dutch soy oil closed 1.50 guilders up after Feb/Apr traded at 97 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill while rape oil was 0.50 to 1.75 guilders up after Jan fetched 96, Mar/Apr 98 and May/Jul 99 and 99.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. At the close of business rape oil had a premium over some soy oil positions, based on sellers' prices, of 0.75 guilders to par. However, May/Jul soy oil had moved into a premium over rape oil of 0.25 guilders. At the close on Thursday rape oil was at a premium of one to 0.75 guilders.
