Traders said business slowed considerably after the release of the USDA's supply and demand report with most players waiting to see how Chicago ends the day. "Chicago has been jumping around, but most people felt the early gains were overdone," a trader said. In it's report the USDA reduced its end season stock levels estimate for soybeans to 140 million bushels against 155 million bushels in its January report. Earlier the strong dollar had supported prices along with the higher close in Malaysia where the market had reopened after a long local holiday. Traders said the palm oil market is unlikely to find it's true level until next week as many players in Malaysia are still on holiday and will not return until Monday. "Once they get back people will want to digest the PORLA figures which are due out this weekend, then get some idea of what the export situation is for February. Also they want to hear what whispers are coming out of the plantations on output," said a trader. At the close crude palm oil cif Europe was $2.50 up after Feb traded at $587.50 in a switch with Apr/Jun at $572.50 a tonne. RBD palm oil closed $5 down to unchanged while olein was $2.50 up after Mar traded at $597.50, Apr at $590 and $592.50, May at $586 and Jul/Sep at $577.50 a tonne fob Malaysian ports. Coconut oil finished $7.50 to $10 up after Mar/Apr traded at $765 and Apr/May at $750 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil closed unchanged to $5 up and tradeless. Dutch soy oil ended with sellers unchanged to two guilders up while rape oil was one to 1.25 guilders higher after Aug/Oct traded at 100.75 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill prior to the release of the USDA report. Traders could find no EU sunflower oil sellers during the afternoon although there was a fair amount of buying interest. "Sellers were there first thing this morning but they disappeared when the USDA report came out," said one trader. Informacije: Zoran Popijač telefon: 01/273-927 fax: 01/4550-148 131047 MET feb 97
