Palm oil was quiet with Malaysian markets in holiday mood ahead of the Chinese New Year and Eid al-Fitr celebrations. The Kuala Lumpur Commodity Exchange will be closed from February 6 to 11, covering both holidays. Soft oils lacked fresh leads with players awaiting the Chicago opening. "Buyers kept away most of the day because people thought Chicago soy oil futures would come crashing down, but at the moment they are drifting back after some small early gains which has left our market almost back where it started this morning," said a trader. Crude and refined palm oil sellers were $2.50 to $5 up at the close with no further business reported for products while crude palm oil fetched $567.50 a tonne cif for Feb. Among lauric oils coconut oil closed mixed at $5 up to $2.50 down after Jan/Feb traded at $797.50 and Feb/Mar at $777.50 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil finished unchanged to $2.50 up. Soft oils closed with soy oil one to 0.50 guilders down after Feb traded at 96 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mil. Closing rapeoil sellers were also one to 0.50 guilders lower after Feb/Apr and Mar traded at 96.50 a 100 kilos fob ex-mill.
