Earlier fears over a possible increase in Indonesia's export tax on palm oil and reduced Malaysian output triggered active buying of crude palm oil. But by midday this had fizzled out. Traders said there was also talk of a tender by Pakistan, which was denied, but they believed there was some private sector Pakistant buying. By the close crude palm oil was $2.50 to $5 up with no further business reported. Products were $2.50 up to $5 up after palm stearin traded at $445, $447.50 and $450 for February and $442.50 and $447.50 a tonne fob Malaysian ports for March. Coconut oil finished $2.50 down in light dealer trading with January/February fetching $780 and February/March $770 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil closed $2.50 up in a tradeless market. Soft oils closed with gains of one to 1.50 guilders a 100 kilos after August/October soy oil traded at 101 guilders a 100 kilos. There were also reported that February/April had traded at 99.25 guilders and May/July at 100.50 guilders, but trader could not confirm these trades. Rape oil traded at 101 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill for May/July. Soy oil and rape oil sellers were even at the close.
