Earlier in the day palm oil prices had firmed on covering following a late rally in Asia on the back of Ivan Wong's latest Malaysian palm oil crop report. Malaysia's palm oil output in January is estimated to fall 9.0 percent from December's 637,865 tonnes, Ivan Wong said. Wong has projected palm oil exports in January at 545,000 tonnes and stocks at the end of January at 730,000 tonnes. The Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority put exports in December at 637,899 tonnes and end-December stocks at 792,687 tonnes. However, after a fairly active morning trading in palm oil was quiet during the afternoon and by the close crude palm oil cif Europe was unchanged to $2.50 up. During the morning January traded at $557.50, $560 and $562.50, February fetched $558.50, $560 and $562.50. Apr/Jun made $550, $552.50 and $550 a tonne cif. Products finished $2.50 to $5 higher. No outright business was reported in coconut oil, but Dec/Jan traded in a switch with Jan/Feb with a spread of $7.50 and Jan/Feb traded in a switch with Feb/Mar also at a $7.50 spread. Closing sellers were $2.50 to $5 down. Palmkernel oil closed $5 to $2.50 up. Among soft oils soy oil closed unchanged to 0.50 guilders down after Aug/Oct traded at 99.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Rape oil finished 0.50 to one guilder lower after Mar/Apr traded at 97.50 guilders in an outright trade while Feb/Apr fetched 97.50 guilders in switch with Aug/Oct at 98.75 guilders.
