Chicago soybean oil went limit-up after a bullish final 1996 USDA soybean crop report. Commercial selling later saw Chicago retreat from its highs. "The market took off after the USDA report emerged. We're now waiting to see whether it has been overdone," one said. The USDA pegged its final U.S. 1996 soybean crop estimate at 2.382 billion bushels, versus average analysts estimates of 2.407 billion. Soy oil traded in Europe on the Feb/Apr position only at 93.75 guilders up to 94.50. Rape oil followed the trend set by soy oil finishing 1.25 to two guilders above Thrusday's close. Most active Feb/Apr fetched 95.75 guilders up to 97.50. The palm oil sector got sucked in to the bullish sentiment set by soy oil, and at the close stood mainly $5 to $7.50 firmer. During the afternoon, crude palm oil made $572.50/575 and $567.50 up to $567.50 on Feb and Mar resepctively. RBD oil fetched $555 for Feb. Coconut oil also found itself climbing higher on soy oils back, with selling levels at the close $5 to $10 up. Trade ranged from $772.50 on Jan/Feb, through to Mar/Apr at $760 and $762.50.
