While most sector were only slightly down coconut oil sellers took a bit of a hammering when dealers started to sell the market down. Coconut oil sellers were $12.50 to $17.50 down by the close after a flurry of light trading. "People were getting fed up with the market and decided to take on the sellers, but there was no volume behined the business," said a trader. Dec/Jan coconut oil traded at $775, Jan/Feb at $765, $762.50 and $760 a tonne cif. Palmkernel oil finished $5 down after Feb traded at $755 and $750 a tonne cif. Dutch/EU rape oil closed 0.50 to one guilders up after Jan traded at 91.75 and 92 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Dutch soy oil closed one to 1.50 guilders up. Based on sellers' prices rape oil is offered at a premium of three to four guilders at the close unchanged from Thursday. Palm oil was quiet during the afternoon although traders said there was a lot of talking going on. "People are talking but unfortunately no business is resulting from the talk," said one trader. Crude palm oil cif Europe and refined palm oil fob Malaysia closed unchanged to $2.50 up with no further business reported. Earlier a late surge in prices in Asia had supported prices but a lack of buying interest here forced sellers to retreat. In the soft oil sector higher Chicago futures had little impact on soy oil prices, but rape oil made further gains during the afternoon. Coconut oil sellers reduced their prices in an attempt to attract buyers. Palm oil closed with crude and refined oils $2.50 to $5 up and no futher was business reported during the afternoon. Dutch soy oil closed one guilder up while rape oil was 0.50 guilders higher to unchanged in tradeless markets. Based on sellers' prices rape oil was offered at a premium of two to three guilders over soyoil at the close against three to four guilders on Friday. Coconut oil closed $5 down to $5 up after Dec/Jan traded at $767.50 and Jan/Feb at $755 a tonne cif. Traders said most of the business was switching.
