Traders said the market was dominated mainly by currency factors and was also awaiting news of the meeting between government officials and representatives of the Indonesian agricultural industry. "As far as we know the meeting has taken place, but we don't expect to hear anything until Tuesday," said one trader. The Malaysian ringgit continued to recover against the dollar and resulted in a limit down close on the Malaysian palm oil futures market. However, the impact of this was not fully felt on the European market mainly due to the Indonesian export ban. At the close, crude palm oil cif Europe was unchanged in the near months and $10 lower forward. Among products, RBD palm oil was $2.50 down to unchanged while Olein was unchanged to $2.50 up. Coconut oil prices were $10 to $5 lower under pressure from high stocks in the Rotterdam. On January 19, stocks rose to 89,061 tonnes from 56,555 tonnes on January 12. Palmkernel oil sellers were $7.50 up with little buying interest seen. In the soft oil sector, prices were supported by higher Chicago futures on Friday and a strong dollar. Dutch soy oil closed one to 0.50 guilders up while rape oil was 0.50 ton one guilder higher. Informacije: Zoran Popijač telefon: 01/273-927 fax: 01/4550-148 201132 MET jan 98
