Autor: half
ZAGREB, Dec 14 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Friday received a delegation of the Dutch lower house European Affairs Committee, thanking it for the Netherlands' support during Croatia's European Union accession negotiations as well as its technical and financial assistance in bilateral programmes, Josipovic's office said in a statement.

Josipovic said Croatia was committed to meeting the remaining obligations identified in the latest monitoring report so that it could join the EU on July 1. He said Croatia was continuing to fight corruption, implementing judicial reform, and eliminating administrative obstacles in order to facilitate investments.

The president said Croatia was determined to try all perpetrators of war crimes, which is why the state prosecutor has requested documents from the Hague tribunal.

He said Croatia would continue to advocate EU enlargement to all Southeast European countries.

The delegation informed Josipovic that because of Dutch elections, a discussion on Croatia's EU Accession Treaty was postponed until February. It is expected to be ratified on time.

The Dutch delegation was also received by Parliament Speaker Josip Leko, who thanked the Netherlands for its assistance to Croatia, notably regarding the EU.

Leko said relations between the two countries were friendly.

"We consider the raising of democratic standards in our interest and will continue to do so after joining the European Union. Croatia will also continue to build trust and cooperation in the region. Our interest is to have peace, cooperation and development in the countries in the region regardless of European Union membership," he said.

The chair of the Dutch committee, Raymond W. Knops, said this visit was important for the ratification of the Accession Treaty in the Dutch parliament.

Dutch MPs praised the European Commission's latest monitoring report on Croatia and were interested in legislation and communication with the public in order to ensure support for reform.

The chair of the Croatian parliament's European Integration Committee, Daniel Mondekar, announced that he would soon visit the Netherlands.
