Serbian war crimes prosecutor requests evidence in Gotovina et al. case

Autor: half
BELGRADE, Nov 25 (Hina) - Belgrade has officially requested evidence in the Gotovina et al. case from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor's Office said on Sunday.

The prosecutor has requested evidence in the Gotovina et al. case on crimes committed during and after a 1995 Croatian military offensive known as Operation Storm.

The prosecutor has also informed ICTY Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz that it has requested from the tribunal's Transition Team material referring to crimes committed during and after the operation on locations for which the Serbian prosecutor is conducting preliminary investigations.

Earlier this week, Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic said his office is conducting preliminary investigations into crimes against Serbs committed in Mali Alan, Dvor na Uni, Gospic, Kijani, Petrinja and Vrgin Most.

The Croatian State Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday it had requested from the ICTY Prosecutor's Office the day before the entire documentation from the trial of Croatian generals acquitted of crimes committed in Operation Storm for further action in war crimes cases.

The ICTY Appeals Chamber on November 16 acquitted Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac, dismissing the Trial Chamber's findings that they had taken part in a joint criminal enterprise and been responsible for excessive shelling. They were also acquitted of superior responsibility.
