Government ready to tackle illiquidity, says finance minister

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Nov 19 (Hina) - Finance Minister Slavko Linic said on Monday the government would help deal with illiquidity and the difficulties encountered by companies through the law on financial operations and pre-bankruptcy settlement, and citizens who have trouble paying their loans through delayed payment but not write-offs.

He was responding to a Croatian Television reporter who asked if the government intended to help citizens and companies that could not return their loans.

"The government will transform its claims from companies as well as bank claims into stakes or write them off. At the same time, we will try to find people to enter new companies, ensure additional funds and deal with both salaries and regular business, but also with the investments that we expect from the private sector this time."

Linic said the government was preparing solutions for the Dalekovod transmission line company, which received has many guarantees from the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development this year for jobs abroad.

"People who at this moment either receive insufficient wages or don't even receive them can only be helped through delayed payment (of either taxes or loans). I don't think there can be write-offs for citizens."

Linic said he saw no reason why unions in the education sector should go on strike. "We didn't save even one kuna on salaries in 2012 but want to next year. I see no reason for a strike because we are negotiating" on a new basic collective agreement, he said, adding that the negotiations referred only cuts to allowances.

The minister announced that every project would be fought for, including the Plomin thermal power plant, the Ombla and other hydroelectric power plants, Zagreb Airport and the INA oil company.
