A name change will not be approved for persons who are on trial or if the selected name offends or jeopardises the rights and liberties of other people, the legal order or public morality.
Deputies also adopted a decision to cut by 100 the number of Croatian troops in NATO's ISAF operation in Afghanistan. The number would be downsized from the current 350 to 300 between January and May 2013 and to 250 by the end of next year. Also adopted was a report on Croatia's participation in the operation from September 1, 2010 to March 31, 2012.
Parliament amended the law on the pension rights of active servicemen, police officials and authorised officials, the law on recruitment and rights during unemployment, and the law on academic degrees.
Parliament ratified the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management in the Mediterranean as one of seven protocols to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean, also known as the Barcelona Convention, as well as an agreement with the Bosnian Council of Ministers on cooperation in defence.

Deputies ratified a decision by the Credentials and Privileges Commission under which Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) president Branko Hrg's term as an MP begins today and that of his predecessor, Josip Friscic, ends. Friscic resigned from parliament.
Parliament approved Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) president Vojislav Stanimirovic's request to suspend his term as an MP. He is replaced by Dragan Crnogorac.
MPs also upheld the appointments committee's decision under which new Parliament Speaker Josip Leko is succeeded by Pedja Grbin as chair of the Committee on the Constitution, Standing Orders and Political System.
Djurdjica Pralas was appointed Leko's chief of staff.
