Croatian, EU representatives discuss Common Fisheries Policy

Autor: half
ZAGREB, Sept 21 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian Agriculture Ministry and the European Commission's director for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, Monique Pariat, met in Zagreb on Friday to discuss the European Union's Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).

Speaking to the press afterwards, Pariat said she came to Croatia to present the reform of the CFP which would be adopted by early 2014, by which time Croatia would already be an EU member.

The CFP's main goal is to sustain the sector so that it has a future and the reform is aimed at developing and modernising the sector, she said.

Croatian Assistant Agriculture Minister for Fisheries Miro Kucic said Croatia had managed to preserve the bulk of its resources, notably regarding pelagic fisheries and small oily fish, and that it paid special attention to the ecology.
