This document was the foundation of the Republic of Dubrovnik until its dissolution in 1808.
State Archive director Ivan Venier said the translation took three years and that there existed two Croatian translations from Latin.
President Ivo Josipovic said the statute pointed to the unique wisdom, knowledge and spiritual greatness of the Republic of Dubrovnik, adding that the English translation was invaluable for a small country like Croatia which would soon join the European Union and be recognised in Europe for such projects.
