The meeting brought together the chief national fire-fighting commander, Slavko Tucakovic, and county commanders from the coast.
According to data of the State Protection and Rescue Administration, there were 4,439 open air fires along the coast through August 20 this year, as against 3,763 during the same time in 2011.
In continental Croatia, there were 4,110 open air fires as against 2,718 through August 20 in 2011.
Sibenik-Knin County reported the highest number of fires, while Lika-Senj County had the largest burnt area, as last year.
The meeting heard that relevant institutions must become more involved in dealing with suspicious fires.
Through August 20, there were 276 fire-fighting interventions along the coast and one on the continent, as against 150 along the coast and none on the continent during the same time in 2011.
