LJUBLJANA, Aug 9
(Hina) - Slovenia will officially observe for the
first time on August 23 the Remembrance Day for the victims of all
totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, the government said on
Thursday after adopting a decision to that effect in line with the
European Parliament resolution of 2 April 2009 on European conscience
and totalitarianism .
The resolution condemns all crimes against humanity committed by totalitarian and authoritarian regimes and underlines the need to remember the past and the truth as requirements for reconciliation.
The Janez Jansa Cabinet recalled that as of 2008, Slovenia observed February 12 as a remembrance day for the Holocaust victims.
