The office said in a press release that Nikolic's statement "doesn't prejudge any change to the status of the southern Serbian province or the solving of outstanding issues, but it also doesn't deny the fact that at this moment Serbia doesn't perform state functions in that area."
The press release added that the statement also did not aspire to any divisions, either territorial or partisan.
Regarding Kosovo, the Serbian President seeks a consensus of all relevant political forces in Serbia, given that it is the most important state issue, the solution to which requires a detailed and important examination of all problems, so as to avoid different interpretations of agreements or any doubts, the press release said.
For that reason, the Serbian government should be formed urgently, so that a team can be set up as soon as possible to resume dialogue in the best possible interest of Serbia, and primarily of all Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo, the press release added.
