"We want to solve the Ljubljanska Banka issue, i.e. the issue of one part of the (former) clients. We talked about hiring two experts in looking for a solution, but I need the mandate of the prime minister and the government for that," Pusic said after the talks with Erjavec, held after the 7th Croatia Summit.
Asked by the press if the debt issue could affect the ratification of the Accession Treaty in the Slovenian parliament, Pusic said the Ljubljanska Banka dispute should not be tied to the ratification. "I think the ratification is a separate process," she said, adding that the defunct bank's debt to its former clients was the only outstanding issue between the two countries.
Erjavec said he was pleased that talks on the issue continued and that experts should weigh in on how to solve it. He, too, said he must obtain his government's mandate to involve them.
Slovenia wants to solve the debt issue as part of negotiations on succession to the former Yugoslavia and not in court.
