Speaking before MPs, Kajtazi said Croatia was showing today in word and deed its support to the Roma people, a symbolic and essential support that would show Europe and the rest of the world that Croatia was committed to supporting its national minorities, notably the most vulnerable one - the Roma.
The initiative to mark World Day of the Romani Language was launched in Zagreb on November 5, 2008 at the presentation of the first Romani-Croatian and Croatian-Romani dictionary.
Kajtazi said he was pleased the initiative had come from the Roma and recalled that the Romani language and literature would be taught at the Zagreb Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
He said the Croatian parliament was the first national parliament that had supported the initiative and that it would encourage other parliaments to do so.
