Autor: half
ZAGREB, May 22 (Hina) - Shipbuilding and marine equipment, the metal, pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries, car parts, energy, construction and business services are possible areas of cooperation between Croatian and French companies, a seminar on how to do business with France heard at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) on Tuesday.

The seminar was intended for Croatian companies which do or plan to do business in France.

France is Croatia's eighth biggest trade partner and sixth biggest investor, said Suncanica Skupnjak-Kapic, the HGK director for international relations.

France's investments in Croatia from 1993 to 2011 were EUR 1.37 billion, accounting for 5.3 per cent of foreign direct investments in Croatia in said period.

Last year, France's investments in Croatia amounted to EUR 4.9 million, or 0.5 per cent of all direct investments.

Skupnjak-Kapic said it was necessary to work on intensifying Croatian-French trade.

Jadranka Guy, the owner of Jadranka, a consulting company for doing business in France, said that in order to enter the French market, it was necessary to prepare catalogues, a company's presentation as well as website in French, and that it was also necessary to highlight Croatia's advantages, such as proximity, tourism, business flexibility and fluency in foreign languages.

According to the HGK, Croatian-French trade in 2011 was US$ 1.07 billion, of which Croatian exports accounted for $380.7 million and imports for $691.2 million.

In the first three months of this year, trade was $208.3 million, including $162.8 million in imports from France and $45.5 million in exports.
