Government dismisses Kalambura as Environment Fund head

Autor: half
ZAGREB, April 27 (Hina) - The government revoked the appointment of Sanja Kalambura as director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, appointing Bozenka Vranar as acting director, the government said in a statement from the closed part of its meeting on Friday.

The government appointed Kalambura to the post on April 19. The media had speculated that the government would relieve her of duty this week because of a document incorrectly stating that she had never been indicted, which she enclosed with the documentation when applying for the position.

Kalambura obtained the document thanks to an oversight by an employee at Zagreb's Municipal Court, according to an internal investigation and an inspection carried out by the Justice Ministry.

After she was appointed director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, the media reported that an indictment had been upheld against Kalambura for abuse of office when she was an employee at the Fund. At the time, the Fund was headed by Vinko Mladineo, who was later indicted for malfeasance.

The anti-corruption office USKOK indicted Kalambura in May 2010 for abuse of office when she was in charge of the Fund's environmental protection projects whereby the Fund was allegedly defrauded of more than HRK 300,000 (40,000 euros). The case, concerning the procurement of dumpsters in Perusic, was referred to the Zagreb County Prosecutor's office and the indictment went into force on February 25, 2011.
