During talks with Montenegrin Foreign Minister Milan Rocen, Brengelmann encouraged Montenegro in its NATO integration but confirmed that the alliance would not decide on enlargement in May.
He said Montenegro deserved messages of encouragement to join NATO, adding that it was extremely important that Western Balkan countries joined the alliance.
We saw that Montenegro is committed, many good things have been done, he said, adding that there was plenty of work ahead but that there was genuine commitment to reforms that were important for NATO.
Rocen said European and Euro-Atlantic integration were two complementary processes.
"The progress Montenegro is making in the European integration process encourages it to make better progress towards the ultimate goal, NATO membership," he said.
