The school was opened for the Croatian community in Belgium shortly after the countries of what was then the European Community recognised Croatia as an independent state early in 1992. Since then 287 students have attended Croatian-language classes in Brussels and Antwerp and 118 in Liege.
The ceremony, organised by students and teachers, was attended by the Croatian Ambassador to Belgium, Boris Grigic, and the first Croatian ambassador to European institutions, Baron Janko Vraniczany Dobrinovic, who both stressed the importance of the school for the preservation of the Croatian language and for the promotion of ties with Croatia.
