Former Croat camp inmates say are discriminated against in Bosnia

Autor: half
MOSTAR, March 19 (Hina) - Croat war victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday marked the 18th anniversary of coming out of detention camps run by the Bosniak-led Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, saying the authorities in Bosnia's Federation entity discriminated against them by revoking their status as former camp inmates and distorting the truth about the 1990s war.

The president of an association of former camp inmates, Mirko Zelenika, said the Federation War Veterans' Ministry was trying to revoke their status because they had sued the state seeking damages.

He said it was unacceptable of Minister Zukan Helez to say that detention camps for Croats had not existed, adding that his advisors included former camp commanders or guards.

According to information of Croatian victims' associations, about 14,000 people passed through the detention camps run by the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today was the anniversary of the closure of the largest camps for Croats, in Bugojno and Mostar, which was part of the Washington Agreement on the cessation of conflicts and the establishment of the Croat-Bosniak Federation entity.
