ZAGREB, Dec 22 (Hina) - A humanitarian airlift into Sarajevo
resumed Wednesday morning. It was suspended on Tuesday after an
attack on an UNPROFOR aircraft, said the spokeswoman for the UN
High Commissioner for Refugees in Zagreb, Alemka Lisinski.
She said 24 relief flights were scheduled for today from Ancona,
Frankfurt, Split and Zagreb after UNHCR had been given assurances
from all three sides to the Bosnian conflict that they would not
attack unarmed UN aircraft.
Yesterday, a UN plane came under small arms fire as it was about
to touch down at Sarajevo Airport. The spokeswoman said that
judging by the damage it was a deliberate attack. She added that it
was the fifth such incident in the last six weeks. After unloading,
the plane returned to Zagreb.
A UNHCR spokesman in Geneva said yesterday that UNHCR protested to
Bosnian Serb authorities about the attack.
