PRESS-CONFERENCE OF CHILEAN ECONOMIC EXPERT BUC

ZAGREB, Dec 4 (Hina) - Distinguished Chilean economic expert Hernan B. Buc held a press-conference on Saturday during his visit to Croatia. His talks with journalists revolved around the issue of the results of the implementation of the Croatian Government's stabilization programme and its comparison with the experiences in other countries on this field. Chilean expert Buc, the creator of the economic revival of Chile, said that he had been informed of the basic elements of the Croatian Government's programme during his stay in Croatia. He pointed out that the first results of the stabilization programme were very good, and the month inflation rate had decreased on the low level in a short period of time. Mr. Buc added that the reconstruction of the economy should be undertaken as a further step, what might be a more difficult task in overcoming psychological obstacles in reducing prices. The economic problems are usually common to many countries, according to this Chilean expert, whereas various stabilization programmes usually reach positive first results. But, there are not many countries that manage to implement the whole stabilization programme which will yield success later. Therefore, Mr. Buc stressed the importance to be consistent and persistent in the implementation of the stabilization measures. Mr. Buc pointed out the fact the Croatian Government commenced its stabilization programme under hard, war circumstances. He added that the social consensus had been already reached in Croatia, what was important for the implementation of the stabilization programme.
