REPRESENTATIVES OF CROATIA AND UNPROFOR ON OPENING OF INLAND WATER -WAY BY DRAVA RIVER

Autor:
-WAY BY DRAVA RIVER OSIJEK, Nov 16 (Hina) - Co-ordinator of the Commission on the UNPROFOR operation in Sector East Branimir Glavas and UNPROFOR Co-ordinator for Civil Affairs in Sector East Philip Corwin held talks on possibilities of the Osijek port and inland water-way by the river of Drava on Tuesday. A proposal on the opening of the Drava inland water-way was presented by representatives of the Republic of Croatia. Glavas stressed that the implementation of the proposal would be of mutual interest for the Croatian and Serb sides. He added that the opening of the inland water-way would reduce expenses of the UNPROFOR logistic base and make possible better and more inexpensive carrying out of humanitarian actions. Croatian representatives stressed that the realization of this initiative, under the UNPROFOR control and monitoring, could be the beginning of the normalization of traffic over the occupied territory. The port of Osijek on the Drava river is 14km far from Dunav, explained the director of the port. UNPROFOR representative Philip Corwin said that the proposal is good and useful and that he will immediately inform his superiors in Zagreb about it. The representatives of the Republic of Croatia and UNPROFOR also talked about the POW's exchange and the implementation of peace initiatives of the Croatian side. 162041 MET nov 93
