ZAGREB, Nov 11 (Hina) - The UN Protected Areas in Croatia are relatively
calm, but in Sector West the build-up of Croatian special police forces,
which led to the mounting tension on either side of the confrontation line,
said UNPROFOR spokeswoman Shannon Boyd at a press conference in the UN
Headquarters in Zagreb on Thursday.
Boyd said that a large number of Serb soldiers with various kinds of arms
had been reported in the Serb-held areas in the Sector, and that UNPROFOR
was trying to ease the tension.
The UN Force Commander in the former Yugoslavia, General Jean Cot,
announced that he would meet with Croatian Minister of the Interior Ivan
Jarnjak this afternoon to hear an explanation of the events in Sector West.
The French General spoke of the possible use of force in securing free
passage for humanitarian convoys in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He said that
between 6,000 and 12,000 soldiers would be needed for the operation.
