SARAJEVO, Nov 4 (Hina) - President of the Presidency of
Bosnia-Herzegovina Alija Izetbegovic said in an interview with
Sarajevo Television on Thursday that Vares had been attacked and
taken control of as "there were well founded fears that Croatian
Defence Council (HVO) units would attack certain Moslem villages
in the Vares municipality."
HVO spokeswoman Vesna Koric said such a statement could serve
only as an excuse which could not be justified. The Moslem
villages remained intact during the HVO's retreat, which could
not be said for the Croatian villages of Tribije, Pogar,
Borovica, Ivancevo, Vici and Kopjari, the latter having been the
first to come under Moslem attack in the Vares area, said the
spokeswoman.
