ZAGREB, Nov 4 (Hina) - Head of the Croatian Government Office for
Refugees and Displaced Persons Adalbert Rebic said in an
interview with Croatian Radio on Thursday that it was necessary
to provide accommodation for 15 thousand Croats from Vares and
the surrounding villages.
"In Croatia we must urgently provide accommodation for those
refugees whom it will be impossible to accommodate in
Herzegovina," said Mr Rebic. He added that most of them were
expected to arrive in Croatia gradually, and stressed that only
3.5 thousand to 4 thousand Bosnian refugees could be put up in
Croatia at the moment. He said that those refugees would be
sheltered at refugee centres in Lipovljani and Kutina,
constructed by the Danish Red Cross, in former army barracks in
Pula and on the island of Vis which were still not ready to
house the refugees, the former army barracks Kamenjak, the
refugee centre Savudrija, the Bjelolasica Hotel and in Karlovac.
"Some of them will be put up in Gasinci, and if a greater number
of them arrive, they will have to be sheltered in tents," Mr
Rebic said. He pointed out that today he appealed for help to
UNPROFOR in Croatia and wrote to the media, embassies and
humanitarian organizations seeking urgent assistance.
