ZAGREB, Jan 14
(Hina) - Croatia marks the 14th anniversary of the
peaceful reintegration of its areas in the Danube River Basin on
Sunday. With the process of peaceful reintegration, which ended on 15
January 1998 after the two-year UN Transitional Administration in
Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Sirmium (UNTAES), the parts of
Osijek-Baranja and Vukovar-Srijem counties, which used to be under the
control of Serb insurgents who occupied them in 1991 with the help of
the then Yugoslav People's Party, were reintegrated into the
constitutional and legal order of the Republic of Croatia, paving the
way for the return of refugees and displaced persons and for
reconstruction of war-stricken villages and towns.
