ZAGREB, Dec 8 (Hina) - Three major trade union associations today
announced a two-hour stoppage for Dec 16.
The unions demand the signing of a Basic National Agreement
and branch agreements, as well as a special Christmas bonus to
salaries and pensions, labour leader Dragutin Lesar told a news
conference.
The stoppage was also meant as a gesture of solidarity with
the Railway Workers' Union, which went on general strike today.
Another labour leader, Niko Gunjina, insisted that that union
representatives be included in a parliamentary commission
investigating privatisation irregularities.
The labour leaders unanimously blamed the Government for
ignoring the unions and "buying time".
They pointed out that the Government failed to submit the
draft labour legislation Union representatives for suggestions and
approval, as it had been instructed to do by the House of
Representatives after the first reading of the Labour Bill.
The Government also failed to present to the Unions a survey
of the social situation in Croatia and a comparative analysis of
labour legislation in developed European countries.
