SARAJEVO, Dec 5, (Hina) - The latest situation in Bosnia-
Herzegovina was extremely difficult and the international community
had to be made aware that Serbs right now, were not only waging war
against the Bosnian Government - but also against the United
Nations, UNPROFOR spokesman in Sarajevo Thant Myint-U said.
Serbs were persistently blocking the UN mission and at the
same time were holding 349 UNPROFOR members, Myint-U said.
Karadzic's forces yesterday allowed the passage of one
UNPROFOR convoy carrying supplies for 'blue helmets' in Srebrenica
and Gorazde. But the UN certainly won't be sending special thanks
to Pale for this, as the Serbs had blocked these convoys for five
days, Myint-U said.
Serbs were keeping almost all control points in Bosnia-
Herzegovina closed and UN troops could not pass.
He described Sarajevo as fully closed because Serbs were
blocking all access roads, and outside the city, Sarajevo airport
was out of use.
UNHCR spokesman in Sarajevo, Kris Janowski said today that the
re-establishment of the humanitarian airlift could not be expected
in the near future, particularly while Serbs were poised to fire
anti-aircraft rockets around Sarajevo.
Sarajevo had food supplies to last until mid December. If the
current humanitarian blockade continued, the city could face a
highly critical situation, Janowski warned.
The humanitarian situation was still always more critical in
the eastern Bosnian enclaves (Srebrenica and Gorazde), and
particularly in Bihac, west Bosnia, he said.
UN Sarajevo headquarters said Sir Gen Michael Rose was
expected to continue talks this afternoon with the Serbs. He is
expected to meet Serb commander Ratko Mladic.
